Now that I am safely into my 2nd trimester now, I'd like to go back to my first trimester and share my styling secrets. Being an image consultant, I tried to use all the tips and tricks that I could think of to do something different with my wardrobe.
Firstly, I got myself a pair of high waisted stretchy jeggings in a larger size, in black and white. These can be dressed up or down and you can ever roll up the hem for those warmer days.
You don't specifically need to get high waisted, it just fits more comfortably over your growing bump and won't cause the dreaded muffin top bulge that many hipsters do when they become too tight. Leggings are also a great buy and will take you all the way through your pregnancy.

Due to the fact that I hid my pregnancy for pretty much most of my first trimester, I had to get creative with the way I dressed to make sure I didn't show my bump, and even though I only really started showing towards weeks 13/14, there was still a little bump that needed hiding, although lucky for me, that was around Christmas time, so I would always pass it up as 'over indulging on Christmas treats' heehee.
Secondly, I wore a lot of my loose fitting sheer tops. These are great because they are thin (perfect for the hot summer days) and they are not form fitting, so you won't show off your newly formed curves. Another great option are loose fitting tanks and Tshirts and don't hug your hips.
Try go for a bold colour, graphic print or statement logo as this will draw the eye from whatever is brewing underneath and focus on what is on the outside.

Lastly, because it's summer, it's just so much easier to throw on a cool summer dress, Just be sure its the right style to suit your growing belly. The best option is to go for A-line (if your tummy is still on the smaller side) or Empire Style.
A-line style cinches in at the waist, if your baby bump is still on the smaller side, this will work beautifully as it will still give you the beautiful hourglass silhouette, however as your bump continues to grow, you'll find it will become slightly uncomfortable.
Empire style cinches in just under your bust, this leaves the area around your tummy free with lots of space to grow and its super comfortable.

However, if you are not like me, and do not need to hide your bump, feel free to show it off with figure (and bump) hugging, shift dresses and tight (but stretchy) tops.
Try not to purchase too many new items of clothes in your first trimester, as you don't know how much weight you'll put on throughout your pregnancy and you wouldn't want to have clothes that you can only wear for a week or so. If you really have to make a purchase, try buying clothes in a larger size and that you know you will wear throughout your pregnancy.
